The Best In Broadband Technology

Mobile broadband internet is changing the way the world works.  We are much more connected than we used to be and with the click of a button, we can do just about anything on today’s wireless devices.  Thanks to apple and android platforms, the wireless world has been revolutionized.  And these phones are all using broadband technologies for success.  Here are some examples.

Apps For Just About Anything

If you think back a few years ago when Apple released the iPhone, they campaigned with the idea that you could do just about anything on their phone.  How?  You simply downloaded their apps.  These apps were downloaded using broadband technology.  And it wasn’t long before android versions of the apps began to be developed as well.  Today some of the most popular games and tools are a result of this technology.  For example, the popular game angry birds is a top downloaded game.  It keeps the world busy, occupied, and happy daily.  Although simple, this game has pleased millions.  In addition, google maps is another great app that serves as a great tool for those that need navigation help.  Many people use this app daily with the help of broadband technology.

Messenger On Phones

Another example of broadband technology in action is the popular blackberry messaging service.  This is a special message, not a text message.  You may have heard the phrase, “BBM me.”  It gained popularity with the Kardashians and became a celebrity favorite technology for communication.  Today, several people still communicate with BBM through broadband technology.

Chances are you are doing something on your phone or computer that is utilizing broadband technology.  It allows things to run smoother and faster.  You can function better because of this technology and you might not even realize it.  That’s what is so amazing about technology!

Using RealPlayer to Watch Your Flicks

One of the oldest and most successful media players that can be used on any PC or MAC is RealPlayer. This media player has been available for years and can also be used to download and watch your favorite movies right from the comfort of your computer.

Unlike other media players that require an upfront fee to use them, the basic version of RealPlayer is free and offers computer users the ability to play videos in all types of video formats like AVI, MPEG-4, MP3, WAV and more.

What Movies are Available on RealPlayer?

With RealPlayer you have the ability to watch all of the same movies and TV shows that you might rent in your local movie rental store. One of the coolest things about this media player is that, since it’s a universal media player, you can also watch movies instantly in RealPlayer that you’ve downloaded from websites like Amazon.com.

Functionality

Another benefit of RealPlayer is that you can easily share your favorite videos on your favorite Social Media websites like Facebook and Twitter so your friends can enjoy the same videos or movies that you’ve been watching. You can also watch your favorite video content on your portable devices as well like Android and iPhone. This is a huge convenience for people who have to commute every day on trains or busses and are looking for something to fill that void on long trips back and forth from home to work.

Take Your Real Player to the Next Level

If you want to upgrade your RealPlayer and have more functionality, you can upgrade it to RealPlayer Plus for $39.99 and have the ability to burn videos that you’ve downloaded to DVD and watch them on your TV. With the upgraded RealPlayer you can also transfer videos to your smartphones, download more videos from other websites.

Electricity—Your Portal to the Internet

Have you ever heard of a video telephone with a touch screen that is plug-in compatible via the electric Internet? Well now you have.

Who Has Their Hands in This?

Only distributors, dealers, agents and importers such as Edimax, Trendnet, Zylex, Powerline, Actiontech, Zest Tech… What’s the matter? You aren’t familiar with any of these names? Okay how about Panasonic and D-link, Linsky’s, Netgear or Belkin? These companies are allowing people to employ the power of their business office or home electrical wiring (which is currently installed in their home or business) to establish an on the spot LAN network for the computer. Currently this technology is not applicable to electricity utilizing Phase 3; but rather Phase 1/2 dedicated electrical circuits. This technology is reportedly easy to use and easy to install. Just by plugging into an electrical outlet you can now play games, compare business electricity prices online, reserve tickets, enjoy net radio or movie streaming, check your E mail or generally surf the net to your heart’s content.

How does it Work?

Don’t ask me to get into the technological terminology, but in layman’s terms (sort of): it utilizes a system that allows several homes to access high speed Internet at the same time, a speed of 85Mbps. A power line adapter is used to plug into an already established electrical outlet; further needed are a patented power pack and power line chipset. It uses very little power and is even able to block hackers with its DES encryption. The bandwidth featured is capable of supplying connectivity for network cameras and audiovisual, coverage for wireless LANs, VoIP calls, online gaming, broadband sharing with higher data rates and IPTV.

On a whole other subject, rather than electricity being your portal to the Internet; check out articles on line that refer to the Internet being the portal to what powers your home and appliances.

A Guide to Snowmobile Technology

Questions about your snowmobile? There are forums where you can discuss questions and supply answers on anything to do with snowmobile technology online. In addition, many snowmobile manufacturers have their own web sites.

Let’s Talk About It

Online forms are the new party line. People from all over can chime in and speak up on whatever is on their mind. Forums geared toward a specific group of people can be extremely helpful places to pick up information and tips. Snowmobile forums discuss great trails, types of manufactured snowmobiles, homemade snowmobiles, winter apparel, great vacation spots, technology and endless other wintery topics. Snowmobile Technology doesn’t stop at just the snowmobile itself either. Actual technology goes into the invention, creation and manufacture of snowmobile clothing and other apparel worn for winter. Keeping wind, snow and freezing rain out and the warmth in is the whole idea behind winter sports wear. And both apparel and snowmobiles have come a long ways since the days when my family used to travel with others to some wintery spot and follow the flags from bar to bar, carrying our suede/ leather wine sack filled with blackberry brandy. Back then Ski- Do and Arctic Cat were rival snowmobile companies and arch rivals.

Snowmobile Technology Timeline

Yes the snowmobile has come a long ways:

  • 1920-first snowmobile prototype looked like a box on skis
  • In 1950- a sleeker and smaller snowmobile was built
  • A two person snowmobile was created in 1959
  • 1977- beginning of professional snowmobile racing
  • In 1980 restrictions were put upon snowmobilers to protect animals and the environment
  • 1992-saw crazy ‘freestyle’ snowmobiling achieve popularity
  • In 1999 there were an estimated four million riders in North America alone

How do you follow that up? Foreseers of the future are talking about snowmobiles that more closely resemble cars including having the driver /rider enclosed. Kind of takes the fun out of it.

Popular Data Center Facts

Data centers remain the single most-amusing of all IT infrastructures. Not surprising, because it is these structures that make it possible to enjoy all the activities we enjoy doing online, including the seemingly simple acts such as chatting, emailing, and carrying out financial transactions.

The biggest internet players have huge data centers, most of them exclusively built to provide data center functions. Others prefer building multi-facility structures instead of single-building facilities. Still, others build multi-use facilities where part of the space is dedicated to data centers while the remaining space offers colocation services to third parties.

The Largest Single-Building Data Centers in the World

1. Topping this list is Digital Realty Trust’s Lakeside Technology Center, in Chicago. It consists of 1.1 million square foot of space and contains four fiber vaults. With power consumption of over 100 megawatts, it is the second-largest power consumer after O’Hare Airport. It has 3 electric power feeds, supported by over 50 generators. These generators are fueled by numerous 30,000 gallon diesel tanks. The data center’s cooling system is supported by refrigerated brine-like liquid, in an 8.5 million gallon tank.

2. It is followed by QTS Metro Data Center, Atlanta, which stands at 990,000 square feet.

The following companies complete the top 10 largest single-unit data centers:

3. The NAP of the Americas, Miami, at 750,000 sf.
4. NGD Europe, Wales, at 750 sf.
5. Microsoft Container Data Center Chicago, at 700,000 sf.
6. Microsoft, Dublin at 550,000 sf.
7. Phoenix One, Arizona at 538,000 sf.
8. DuPont Fabros CH1, Illinois at 485,000 sf.
9. Microsoft Data Centers – Quincy Washington and San Antonio – both 470,000 sf.
10. The Super NAP, LA at 470,000 sf. and 250 megawatt capacity.

Who has the Highest Number of Servers?

Google recently revealed that it had 45,000 servers in one of its data centers. If the figure is multiplied across all its data centers, it has a total of over 900,000servers. Microsoft has over 300,000 servers. Yahoo has over 155, 000 servers.

Other major players with confirmed figures as of September 2011 are:

1. OVH with the highest number of servers, at more than 100,000. The company is the leading web hosting company in France and the second largest in Europe.
2. SoftLayer, with its headquarters in Dallas, has 86,000 servers. Even more amazing is that the company was founded in 2005.
3. Akmai Technologies of Cambridge, MA has 84,000 servers.
4. Intel (California) with 75,000 servers.
5. Rackspace with 74,028 servers
6. 1&1 Internet with over 70,000 servers
7. Facebook with over 60,000 servers
8. LeaseWeb with 36,000
9. Intergenia with 30,000
10. SBC Communications with 29,193 servers
11. Verizon with 25, 778 servers
12. Time Warner Cable with 24,817 servers
13. HostEurope with 24,000servers and
14. AT&T with 20,000 servers.

HP/EDS have 380,000 servers spread across 180 data centers. Others with unconfirmed figures but suspected to be between the 40,000 and 100,000 server range are Amazon, eBay and GoDaddy.

From the above, it is clear that the largest data centers have tens of thousands of servers. Don’t forget that most companies are secretive about the number of servers they run. A single company with multiple data centers can therefore easily have a total of 1,000,000 servers.

The Science of How Pregnancy Affects Your Skin

Pregnancy is a time of change. Your body, once so familiar, takes on a mind of its own entirely. Scientifically speaking, this is the result of the mammoth changes to the system that are required to protect and support the development of a new human being. The changing hormonal environment can have a powerful effect on everything that you do—especially your skin.

Common Pregnancy Related Skin Conditions

You’ve heard of stretch marks, but the list of pregnancy related skin effects is long, including:

  • Pregnancy related acne
  • Pregnancy mask or melasma or cloasma
  • Belly itching
  • Belly rashes such as PUPP or pruritic urticarial papules and plaque of pregnancy

There is also, of course, the fabled pregnancy glow. This is the result of your increased blood flow to the face and, of course, pregnancy hormones. But what causes all sorts of skin conditions to develop during pregnancy? And how can you treat them safely?

Medical Causes and Treatments

Pregnancy acne is truly the result of your body’s changing hormones and should be treated quickly and aggressively to prevent bacteria from getting a foothold. Pregnancy mask is also related to hormonal changes—specifically their effect on your pigmentation and your reaction to the sun. The best way to manage it is to reduce your skin’s exposure to sun during pregnancy. Stretch marks and itchy or rashy skin are often caused by the simple growth of your pregnant body. Your rapid growth places a strain on your skin’s elasticity and the result is itchy uncomfortable skin as it stretches to accommodate you. Fortunately, you can treat simple itchiness like this with a little soothing lotion. It will keep your skin moist and your body happy. If your itching develops into a rash with fluid filled blisters, however, it may indicate the development of something more serious.

Ideally, you should keep your doctor appraised of any skin ailments so that he can recommend the proper pregnancy skincare products to treat it.

The Science Of Skin

The skin is an interesting part of the body. It’s not surprising that the skin is as complex as other parts of the body. It’s one of the largest organs, comprised of layers of tissues to protect your muscles, bones, ligaments, and organs. Here are some unique details about the skin to be aware of like having a hyaluronic acid face.

Functions of the Skin

The skin performs several functions that you might not be aware of. One of the major functions of the skin is to be a barrier between pathogens and damage from the environment. Another important feature of the skin is to feel sensation. It contains nerves that react to temperature, touch, pressure, vibration, and injury. Furthermore, the skin serves as a means for excretion. Without the skin, the body would have nowhere to release fluid besides excretion. Sweat is the second most important way the body releases fluid besides excretion. Therefore, don’t be too upset when you sweat a little bit! Lastly, one of the great functions of the skin is to serve as a water resistant barrier allowing essential nutrients to remain in the body.

Pigments of the Skin

In addition to the functions of the skin, there are also different pigments of the skin to be aware of. First, melanin is a brown color of skin that appears in the epidermis. Melanoid is another type of pigment. It is similar to melanin, but more diffused throughout the epidermis. Carotene is also a type of pigment. It is a yellow to orange color that is often present in fat cells. All these pigments are important to be aware of because they affect the appearance and health of the skin.

Your skin is vital to basic bodily functions. This is why it is so important to take care of it and make sure it receives the nutrients it needs daily.
