A wonderful post about the future of manufacturing - the coming of the digital industrial revolution.

I just found out that about 50% of the 3D printers in the market today were shipped in the last 2-3 years -- this is massive recent growth in a market that is about 16 years old, and totally supports your opening statement.

These 3D printers will come from places like www.desktopfactory.com and desktop laser cutters from www.ulsinc.com , etc.

Ponoko is the world's first personal manufacturing platform to both create and consume individualized products on demand. We're for creators to make and sell their product ideas, for consumers to make and buy and for digital manufacturers to plug their hardware into to become the world's distributed manufacturing network.

Oh this is such fun!

Anyhow we launch by the end of Sept 07, so anyone who wants to find out first, feel free to sign up at http://www.ponoko.com/registration
